Updated: 2020-09-22 05:36:44 KST
The Emmy Awards has attempted something which has never been done before amid the COVID-19 pandemicwhat they call the "Pand-Emmys".
The whole ceremony went virtual without an audience in attendance.

"That would mean that I'm up here all alone. Just like prom night."

Instead, the seats were filled with cardboard cut-outs of the nomineesover a hundred of whom were connected online ready for the winners to be announced.

"Instead of bringing the nominees to us, we went to them."

There were even short scenes where a woman in protective clothing walks up to the presenter to have him tested for COVID-19, before calling out the winners.
Also, for sanitation reasons, the hosts burns the paper with the name of the winners written on it, before putting the fire out.

"Alright. Sanitized for your protection."

In another short skit, a person in a protective suit hands over the award to the winner.
The nominees all joined the ceremony online, safely at home with their families and co-workers - where the lucky winners received their awards.
And by becoming the first-ever major award ceremony to go virtual, this year's Emmys showed how events of this nature can be carried out successfully online, following strict safety guidelines.
