World Ch. Schedule : TUE 20:00 KST
Date : 2020-07-07
With about four months ahead of the presidential election, the United States is calling on North Korea to return to talks. Washington’s move seems to minimize any unpredictable cards that could be played by Pyeongyang. The South Korean government is drawing up measures to deescalate tensions on the Korean Peninsula. Seoul is putting effort into bringing Trump and Kim to their third summit, while President Moon Jae-in has recently reshuffled his national security lineup for the first time. How would North Korea respond to the United States’ new diplomatic approach? Would South Korea be able to facilitate the two sides? We bring in Ko Myong-hyon, a research fellow at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies, and Kim Soo-kyung, a research fellow at the Korea Institute for National Unification, to discuss these issues.
