Peace and Prosperity Ep.30
▶ Changing U.S. foreign policy and nuclear talks

Nearly two weeks have passed since working-level talks between North Korea and the U.S. in Stockholm ended without much progress. Faced with a pile of diplomatic issues, U.S. President Donald Trump remains relatively silent on the North Korea issue. Trump’s decision to withdraw U.S. forces from Syria amid Turkey’s escalating offensive against the Kurds in northeastern Syria was met with criticism that he has abandoned the Kurds who helped the U.S. defeat ISIS. Trump imposed new sanctions against Turkey after his Syria decision sparked outrage, but there are lingering concerns over his view of U.S. alliances. How will Trump’s latest policy change affect future nuclear talks with North Korea? How high of a priority is North Korea for Trump, who is embroiled in other major foreign policy challenges?

To break down the latest developments, we are joined by Choo Jae-woo, Professor of Political Science and Diplomacy at Kyung Hee University in the studio. To broaden the perspective, we also connect with guest experts on Skype, including Ankit Panda, Senior Editor at The Diplomat magazine and Andrew Yeo, Associate Professor of Politics at the Catholic University of America.
